Redbook: A Game of Change
This is a project several years in the making. It represents an unbroken line of inspiration leading from the first time I read Encounter Critical to the present day. It is a roleplaying game, a social wargame, a set of in-world documents, and an alternate world. It is something you can play, with some effort, as I did. But it is also something you can read and enjoy. It is an intensely experimental game that can cause some feelings of stress and confusion. It will take a lot of energy to play and especially to run.
The body of the project is split into two parts: A Game of Change is an original "social wargame" based on creating change in a difficult social environment. Redbook (Rodboken) is the predecessor RPG project which inspired the Game of Change, and has been included so that you can play the Game of Change in the fictional nation of Havland, where Redbook is set. The project has rich ties to a fictional universe that I have been building for more than a year, as both games exist as in world documents in a world where Havland is real.
Also included in this download are extensive playtested and game-ready materials to play these games, with maps, references, and other source materials. A readme file containing the in-universe explanation for this set of materials has also been furnished. I hope this provides a rich reading and playing experience unlike any other.
Playing Instructions: If you wish to experience these games at their best, it is recommended that you play Redbook with the Game of Change rules (see the Redbook -> Game of Change conversion guide) with four Actor players (1 per pregenerated character) and 1 Judge. The Actor players should start with their chosen character's character sheet and briefing sheet, with the map and the starting political situation common knowledge. The Judge should hand the Actor players other materials (the leads document, the 1920s guide) as necessary to supplement the game, and the Coronsdaeg starting scenario in Redbook can be used to jumpstart play.

Note: There is a significant price tag on this project because it took me a lot of time and effort to create, playtest, and assemble. If you identify as part of a marginalised group or find the price a financial barrier, just email me at
